Vehicle Pickup Policy

Once you accept a quote, a tow truck will come to your location anywhere in Georgia at no charge. This page explains exactly what to expect: how to prepare, what the driver checks, how payment is made, and what happens after the vehicle is removed.

Scheduling the Pickup

After you accept your offer, you choose a pickup window. We operate seven days a week including weekends and most holidays. Available time windows are typically:

Morning
8 AM – 12 PM
Afternoon
12 PM – 4 PM
Evening
4 PM – 8 PM

Same-day pickup is available in most Atlanta-area counties when you call before noon. Outer Georgia counties (beyond 60 miles of metro Atlanta) may require next-day scheduling. When scheduling, let us know if the vehicle is in a difficult location — underground parking, fenced property, or requires notification to a HOA or property manager.

Before the Driver Arrives: Preparation Checklist

1

Remove all personal belongings

Check the trunk, under seats, glove box, center console, door pockets, and visor. Once the vehicle is loaded, retrieval is not possible.

2

Remove your Georgia license plates

Georgia plates belong to the owner, not the vehicle. Remove them before the driver arrives. You can return them to the DMV or transfer them to another vehicle.

3

Locate the title or other ownership documents

Have the title ready to sign. If you don't have a title, know the vehicle's year — vehicles 12+ years old in Georgia can be sold via bill of sale (O.C.G.A. § 40-3-4).

4

Have a valid government-issued ID

Required for all transactions. The name on your ID should match the name on the title. If the title is in a deceased family member's name, call us first — we can advise on the process.

5

Make the vehicle accessible

The vehicle needs to be reachable by a standard flatbed or wheel-lift tow truck. If it's in a closed garage or behind another vehicle, arrange access before the driver arrives. Notify us at scheduling if access is difficult.

6

Disable any active security systems or immobilizers

If your vehicle has an aftermarket alarm or immobilizer, disable or disarm it so the driver can load it without triggering alarms.

What the Driver Checks at Arrival

The pickup visit is not a detailed mechanical inspection. It is a quick verification that the vehicle matches your description. The entire visit typically takes 20–30 minutes from arrival to departure.

VIN verification

The VIN on the vehicle must match the VIN on the title. The driver will check the dashboard VIN and may also check the door jamb or engine bay.

General condition match

The driver confirms the vehicle matches your description. This is not a detailed mechanical inspection — it is a basic visual check to confirm you described the vehicle honestly (e.g., no major undisclosed flood damage).

Catalytic converter presence

If you stated the catalytic converter was intact at quoting, the driver will verify it is still present. A missing converter that was described as present will result in an offer adjustment.

Presence of additional components

If your offer included a credit for functional wheels, working engine, or other components, the driver will do a quick check of those items.

Offer Adjustments at Pickup

Our policy is to honor the quoted offer. An offer adjustment at pickup only occurs when:

The vehicle description at quoting differed materially from actual condition (e.g., you described it as non-flooded but it shows clear flood damage markers)

A component included in the offer (catalytic converter, working engine, specific parts) is not present or is not in the stated condition

The VIN does not match the title, creating a legal complication that requires resolution before transfer

We do not adjust offers as a routine negotiating tactic. If our driver attempts to reduce your offer without a legitimate reason tied to the above, you have the right to decline the pickup and contact us directly at (678) 490-7989.

How Payment Works

You are paid before the vehicle is loaded.

Payment is made in cash or by check at the moment of transaction — not after processing, not by mail, not through a payment app pending transfer. The driver brings your payment to the pickup.

Form of payment: Cash for most transactions. Larger transactions may be paid by business check at the driver's discretion. Confirm preferred payment method when scheduling.

Receipt: You will receive a copy of the bill of sale as your transaction receipt. Keep this for your records and for insurance cancellation purposes.

Towing fee: There is no towing fee. Towing is included in the purchase price. The amount quoted is the amount paid — period.

Title Transfer

At pickup, you will sign over the title to RidOfMyCar.com. On a standard Georgia title, this means signing the "Seller" section on the back and completing the odometer disclosure. The driver will assist if needed.

If you do not have a title, a Georgia bill of sale is used for qualifying vehicles (12+ years old). The driver brings the bill of sale form — you fill it out and sign it at pickup.

For complete title requirements and no-title procedures, see our Title and Ownership Policy.

After the Vehicle Is Picked Up

  1. 1Cancel your auto insurance on the vehicle immediately — you are no longer the owner.
  2. 2Keep a copy of the bill of sale. If you receive registration renewal notices, contact the Georgia DOR with the bill of sale to confirm the title has transferred.
  3. 3If you removed license plates, return them to the Georgia DMV or transfer them to another vehicle within 30 days to avoid any administrative issues.
  4. 4Your vehicle will be transported to a licensed Georgia recycling facility. Usable components are salvaged; remaining metal is shredded and recycled.
